Backburner Art #1a- Rain World (Vanilla Campaigns)
The first time I got familiar with the pattern tool. First time I got familiar with the alien world as well.

Before discussing this art piece, yes I know that these aren't their actual colors, I used custom colors for my slugcats. So, we got Cyan Scug, Blue Scug, and Scug Afton.
Considering the way I plan to do the art stuff now, I really should've given each scug their own piece, but honestly if I did that I wouldn't have this rad picture of the 3 vanilla scugs, and I like that.
I usually get some references from the Spriters Resource, but since Rain World doesn't really have that much presence there, I had to find a specific area in the game to set these three scugs on. I will admit, one of the poles is taller than it is in-game, but that's only to get the full scug in frame. The rest of the background was there as a guide for where stuff should go. The fence (and the paneling for the iterator rooms) I made using the Fill Pattern Tool, which allowed me to make custom patterns and use them. These patterns also take transparency into account, which the fence used.
The head statues in the background are very crude looking, but considering the fact that very harsh rain has been pouring on and off everywhere for an indiscriminate amount of time, I think having them look crooked fits. The two overlays showcasing Looks to the Moon & Five Pebbles are probably my favorite idea, but I wish I did them better. Moon looks a little bit janky, and Pebbles looks off-model, but the rest I like. Especially the little circular holograms that are around Five Pebbles, definitely my favorite background detail in this piece.
In-game, a slugcat standing on top of a pole looks like they don't have any legs, instead you just see the top of the pole being around the area where the tail begins, with said tail dropping behind it. So, I quite like how they turned out here. Cyan Scug is holding a karma flower, representing its unique game mechanic. Blue Scug is holding a spear in a rather cute way, because it is the regular survivor slugcat. Scug Afton is holding the green neuron fly that you use in their campaign. They're also wearing a spear on their back, since they need it to kill and eat their enemies.
The whisps behind them represent the endings for them that I got. Since I didn't play through a second time to get the other ending they could've gotten, that's all I added for that. I quite like how they ended up looking, overall, but I do recall struggling to get the whisps right.
