Backburner Art #5b- Pokemon: Yellow Version (Post-Game)
Perfect ice and playing around with shading colors.

It's been a while since I had played this one when I did that single Post-Game stream. I wanted to deal with the legendary birds and Mewtwo. As you can see up there, I dealt with Mewtwo swiftly. Thank god for Blizzard.
First off, yes, Mewtwo doesn't have his colors right, I was using the colors on his sprite. It honestly surprised me that he had a black-red-yellow-white palette. Next, I made the ice. It's layered above Mewtwo (with the part around his hand erased out with blend modes), made a little bit transparent, and then has a Fog Lighten blend mode. That, combined with the color of the ice and the shading, made it look fucking awesome.
For shading, I only used a dark color, and no lighting, for the shading. It's a more desaturated, dark blue. The test with my completion art for Leaf's Odyssey involved getting away from the edges when I choose shadow colors, and I wanna see how it works here. Conclusion: it works.
Last bit about the ice: I used two color palettes for it. There are two blue color palettes that get used for the pokemon in battle. One is more regular blue stuff, while the other is a lighter one. The regular one is used for the line art and the fill, while the lighter one is used as the shine for both the lineart and the fill. It's not in the parts with the shadows though, because that's how lighting works. Granted, there's no real light source here anyways.
I also took the time to research how these pokemon are supposed to look now. You've seen my hand at this in Backburner Art #5a. I think the one that got the most improvement was Vikture, the nidoking, but everyone else included in this piece (aside from Moonshroom the parasect) got refined as well. Cinnymoon's sidespikes are now more defined, Sparkle's whole body is a bit more stout now, with some defined legs (not that you'd see it), and Vikture is more in the shape of a nidoking now, with his head, arms, legs (that aren't that visible), and even back looking like the pokemon it's supposed to be. Mewtwo looks cool, I'm glad he came out fine.
