Backlog Art #1- Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
The first bit of fanart that I've made for my streams. Let's dissect and study it!
Man I wished I had thought of this before making that long-ass Stream Art page, having posts dedicated to art is way better.
On July 24th, 2023, I beat Super Mario RPG. On August 21st, 2023, I made this piece of fanart. I won't be giving these dates out for every single piece, I am just letting you know that this isn't super recent, it's about a year old now. I do this because I have since improved in many areas of my art, and so I will be tearing this piece to shreds (figuratively, it's digital).
I am most proud of this piece's background. It is Star Road, an important thing in this game. It's interesting that I colored the lines of said star, but it works. The mist behind it is pretty good as well.
Everything else, I wish I could've done better. I think Geno is file, I like how I drew him. The reason why he looks scarred is because of the Calamari boss in the game, he was either the first one grabbed, the only one grabbed, or the most common grab for that boss, and one can only ponder the horrors he's seen. Mallow is... fine, I guess. Could probably do the bottom better. Peach and Bowser I wish I did better for. Bowser looks kinda derpy instead of coo, and Peach looks a bit off. Peach is drinking the life juice in reference to, if I recall correctly, the fact that she kept dying in the final boss fight, and thus I had to use a lot of them. My last two complaints are the shell and the signature. I could've found a better place for the name, and if that shell was better-drawn, it could've been on the white rim of the shell.
Mario is probably my second favorite (first being that background) thing about this piece. He's got those legs ending in feet that don't extend out in front of the leg, which combined with his hands being just circles, gives him an unapologetically cartoony vibe, which was what I was going for. His hat is well-done, his face is pretty good, and even the mustache/nose segment looks pretty decent. My only gripe is his eyebrow and 'stache colors. If those were a solid black, I think it would've made him better than the Star Road.
