Backlog Art #19- Super Mario Sunshine
Sometimes it's difficult to find the right lighting effects.

I wished I had more fun with this game. For the most part it was, but the fact that, even in a casual playthrough, you would have to get through some of the platform-bullshit secret levels hinders it a bit for me.
Oh right, the drawing.
I mostly enjoyed drawing Mario here, trying to get a particular expression through his face. I don't know for sure if I did well, as the mustache was a bit difficult to incorporate into his expression, since I don't draw his mouth. He's supposed to be deadpan smirking.
The scene here is that Pete (on the right) and Frank (on the left) are giving Mario a medal that lets him have a lifetime access to Isle Delfino's luxurious paradise, due to going above and beyond helping them deal with a crime spree he was framed for, that they unjustly jailed him for. For reference, Pete and Frank are the two parole officers that first tell Mario to clean up the goop "he made" that was covering up one of the statues, and through the power of skits they became two of my favorite characters to voice through the game. Pete is the chief who, while tired of everyone's shenanigans, has a level-head and is willing to admit that the justice system of Delfino fucked up, while Frank is just a regular cop, even more baffled at the shit going on, and ends up having an existential crisis and gets confused at everything. Aside from the owner of Hotel Delfino and the mayor from Pianta Village, these two are my favorite piantas in this game, solely through this bit that me and some chatters were playing up.
So of course I needed to include them.
Last thing I wanna talk about is the lighting. I had an idea of getting warm colors for the light, but here comes an issue of relying on blend modes for lighting. Any warm color I attempted to use, when I applied blend modes, just made the light look white. That's not too bad, especially since it's still showing a very sunny day and everything looks bright, but in an inverse problem I had with the Pikmin drawing, I wanted a different mood with the lighting. I wanted everything to have a tint of yellow/orange coming from the sun.
