Backlog Art #28- Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
More drop shadows, since it was so fun the first time. Also testing out some of my new brushes, and my Krita-shopping skills.

I am quite proud of this one.
I had originally wanted to do the paper cut-outs like I did with the last Paper Mario, but decided against it in order to avoid blocking details.
If you can't tell, this is the part where they get shot into space with the Bob-Omb cannon. On stream, when it actually fired, my emulator threw up a warning message at the perfect timing, hence why there's a Windows popup included in the art.
The Earth itself turned out alright. I struggled for a little bit with the clouds in the atmosphere, but it turned out okay. I also have two "layers" of atmosphere that extends past the Earth and into the night sky. If you look close enough, you can tell there's different color variations of space around the Earth. There is also a little explosion on the planet, implied to be from the Bob-Omb cannon.
Space looks wonderful here, I feel. I used some of my new brush presets in Krita in this picture, and one of them is a modified spray-can base. It scatters pixels everywhere, so with colors like White, Yellow, and Red-ish, I put stars in space. Also I used a lightish blue for some star clusters, with the hope that it would look like a bit of a galaxy.
The best part here (the one I did first) was drawing the characters being flung into space. Technically towards the moon, but whatever.
- Mario was first, and he was my favorite to draw. He has a goofy-ass pose, like he's a cartoon character tumbling through the sky, arms spinning trying to gain some control of the momentum, legs kicking like he's trying to swim. Plus, he's just my personal best at drawing Mario. Granted it's his paper design, but still.
- Goombella here is my second least-favorite drawn character here (first being Sunny, AKA Yoshi Kid, but we'll get there). She's still alright though. Like Mario, she's tumbling head over heels through the lack of atmosphere. I'm proud of getting her helmet and ponytail right. Eyebrows too. But she just feels a bit off.
- The way Koops is drawn is a cop-out, but a justified cop-out. I know his character arc is becoming braver on the journey to get the crystal stars, but c'mon, he's being shot into space. Of course he would hide in his shell. Took a bit to get the shell right, but it looks perfect.
- Madame Flurrie is a wind spirit, so I drew her body trailing along behind her. She's very shocked at being flung out. I thought I was gonna struggle with her, but she turned out fine.
- Sunny is what I named my Yoshi Kid, since he was orange. Being born in the ring, he has no sense of fear, and so I imagined him to be in awe of soaring into space. He's my least favorite drawn purely because his head looks wonky, but everything else works out at least.
- Vivian is another of my favorites. Like Flurrie, she's got her wispy tail trailing along behind her. I thought it would look cute if she had to hold her hat on while speeding through space.
- Admiral Bobbery was my favorite one to have here. He's a bob-omb, so I imagined he wouldn't be as scared at being shot into space as the others. He's used to being flung upwards after being exploded. So he's the only one looking very determined at making it to the moon. Not tumbling, not trying to keep his accessories on (though a lack of hands prevent that anyways), not scared, not in awe. He's dead set on completing the mission.
- Ms. Mowz was another one I thought I would have trouble on, but she turned out alright. She's also tumbling, waving her hands.
