Fun with hats. More shading practice.

Backlog Art #29- Super Mario 64 DS
I like your hair! Did you do something with it?

I had some fun with this one.

If you recall one of the main mechanics they added into the DS version, it is that the hats change you. I had no idea what I was gonna do with this art until I remembered this mechanic, and thus the fun began.

Mario isn't really Mario, it's actually Yoshi, wearing a Mario cap. This is why he has no mustache, and has a bigger nose.

Luigi isn't really Luigi, it's actually Wario, wearing a Luigi cap. This is why he's bearing teeth and has that zig-zag mustache.

Wario isn't really Wario, it's actually Luigi, wearing a Wario cap. This is why he has that smooth, silky mustache.

The hatless Mario in the background is actually the real legit Mario. He's angrily stomping towards the group to get back the hat Yoshi snatched from him.

For this render, I think I managed to find a warm enough shadow color. I wanted the scene to be nice and appealing, and that fits the bill. Generally, I believe shadows are cool colors, but this is art, so we don't follow the law of real life visual rules. It looks nice, and that's all that matters.
