Backlog Art #7- Super Mario Bros.

Perspective can be a bitch.

Backlog Art #7- Super Mario Bros.
Mama mia, I gotta get-a the fuck out of here!

This is probably one of my favorite pieces for the Super Mario Bros. series so far, even better than the one I made for 3. Let's get right into it!

First off, let's talk about that tiling on the ground. I had struggles with getting this to look right, and even now, it's actually not aligned that well with the brick buildings in the background. Thank god for foreground objects. While on the subject though, I am quite proud of how the tile itself looks, I just made a revamped version of SMB1's regular ground tile.

For the buildings, I used a 2-point perspective assistant tool to help with their shapes. I am proud of how they look, even though you can clearly see that the ridges are paper-thin.

The enemies are alright. The bullet bill looks pretty decent, and of course the way I made it look like it's moving does wonders. The hammer bros. are okay, I do think I interpreted their sprites well (and yes, I am aware of how the hammer bros. are supposed to look, I am just judging it based on the game sprites).

Mario is yet again my favorite part of this drawing. His running pose, the mushroom he's holding, his face, the way his hat is flying off, it's just perfection.
