Not even sure how to excerpt this. I think I'm going crazy over here, need more practice.
CAUTION:
This is NOT a trusted source, I am simply weaving a story. Everything put here has one purpose: to take you down a humorous little retelling of the very brief rabbit hole I went through. As for the subjects of the actual event that I learned about, I will not be fully touching upon it, as I am not a good source to learn about the latest drama, nor do I want to make a serious post about it. I have no stakes in the sets of media that this post centers around, and thus I shouldn't be the one to find and deliver that kind of information. I will leave that to the professionals. If you want legit facts, DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH on FORSAKEN by SOUL, and BE WARY of the kinds of topics you might stumble upon. Viewer discretion is HIGHLY ADVISED.
Got all that? Good. Let us start, shall we?
Have you ever heard of a game called Forsaken?
I have.
But if you haven't, I believe it's a game that the entirety of the internet decided has baby-monkeys-on-typewriters-type writing levels. Bluntly, everyone thought it had shit writing. Don't remember much on what people thought of the voices, but since that's where the delivery of a lot of writing comes from, they probably hated that too.
Now, I'm no fan, nor am I about to list off every single reason why you should hate it. I just know about it because I've seen some compilations of people making fun of its ass-script. I've always been like that; there's a reason why Retsupurae, MST3K, and Watch+Play are some of my favorite things to watch.
This post... is not about that.
Gather up some popcorn, and call your seat in, because I'm about to take you on a little journey. A journey that I just went through. I figured I'd make this a post because of several reasons. Firstly, I want to do more posts here, as there are a few things that I want to talk about that I forget about / don't have time to talk about on stream. Also, I have a habit of making stories about stuff that I know or has happened to me, when in normal conversation, you need to do summaries, and only go into certain details when other participants ask about it. So I'm getting ahead of myself by making this, and by that I mean that I already did the story in Discord, but now I'm story-fying it for this post. It might help me get better at writing too, doing these kinds of posts, so fuck it, it's story time!
[Don't worry, I'm making sure that I don't go off track too much, just enough so that some stuff makes sense]
The Journey...
I've been doing some drawing on some character reference sheets (something that I want/need to do). To help keep my brain occupied, I usually like to listen to videos on YouTube, or podcasts on either SoundCloud or Spotify. On YouTube, it has to either be a playthrough where I don't have to focus on the story or gameplay, or a series/episode/video essay that I've already watched before. As someone who is neurodivergent, I do like having videos and podcasts playing on my phone while I do other stuff, but not to the extent of requiring 15 videos going on at a time on another monitor just to zone in. I tend to get hyperfixated, so I just need a single focus, not a zillion focuses. Mostly, it's not the incomprehensible noise that I need, it's the specific noise of some people I know either doing things, chatting and hanging out, or both.
In this case, I was listening to an episode of the 10-Minute Power Hour, a live-action series where the hosts (who are also the hosts of their main channel, Game Grumps) basically fuck around, doing the idea/challenge for that episode, and the 10-minute time frame barely means shit. The episode in question? They were "corn dog-ifying" things. The Game Grumps in general are a big source of my background focuses, as I enjoy the way Arin and Dan (the hosts) hang out and dick around. They're funny, dumb, and sometimes get surprisingly deep, and I'm all here for it. Mostly, sometimes the dumbness can interfere, but if it leads into comedy then I'm all for it.
Back to the video, I had reached a particular scene, the audio of which gets used in an animation I enjoyed recently by an animator that does a lot of Game Grumps-themed stuff. Annoyed by my current setback on my character reference sheet (still am, at the time of writing), I start scrolling down the "related videos" to see if I can find the animation in question. Needless to say, that did not happen.
Instead what I found was a post that was frustratingly vague, so much so that I had to figure out just what the hell it was.
A channel called M1sf1re states the following:
"Wow.
I'm not even sure how to comment on this.
Guess I was too naïve, need to learn from it."
The post wasn't quite a day old, but was getting close, so it happened recently, whatever it was. Curious, I check the first place anyone goes to for information: the comment section. Jokes aside, before doing anything in this kind of situation, I try to see what the commenters talk about to try and gleam some important context. Usually commenters will speak their minds, and in some comment sections that I've seen, they can be real goddamn wise and knowledgeable. However, I am aware that they can also be real fucking dumb. I've seen it. Take any comment with a grain of salt.
Regardless, if the post was being this vague, it wasn't going to do any good trying to search up what happened anyways, so essentially I had to go into the comments to find out what's going on.
Before we go on, I thought about using the YT handles (the @'s) of the commenters to credit them, but I don't know how weird it will be if, by some miracle caused by a blue blood moon, they stumble across their username handles in a silly post, so instead I will be making a nickname based on what I see of their handle. You already have the channel name of the post maker, and the exact words the post has, so if you really want to see what comments I came across, you can use that to help your search. Alright, back to my story.
First one, from Vanz:
"Wait are u gonna continue playing forsaken and upload videos about it or no? Please dont be like the others ur the only one i watch who plays forsaken and chill😦"
1st Context Clue:
Forsaken... That sounds... familiar.
You see why I started this post off the way I did now? Yea, that wasn't just there for bullshit.
So this terrible game has people who likes watching it, interesting. But also this is a thing that happened that has stopped people from playing it. Now we need to find the "what" that happened.
Which leads us to the next comment immediately afterwards, from Muse Mint:
"For those who don't know here are the VERY short notes
Owners transferred, Soul sold Forsaken, the new legal owner is apparently pretty chill but if they wanted to they could do anything they want with it
The important part is nothing regarding development has changed yet (and will hopefully stay that way)"
First off, no duh the new legal owner can now do anything they want with it, that's how it works. Thanks, Captain Sherlock.
But at this point, things aren't making sense to me. Forsaken was a Triple-A game, right? Is Soul the company that made the game? I didn't care for the game, I just watched people mock the writing, so I didn't bother learning the company's name. It's a weird company name, and who in their right mind would name their child Soul, anyway? Also, by "they could do anything they want with it," what do they mean? Are they gonna remove it from Steam and Xbox 720? IS it on Steam? What Xbox are we on, anyways?
All of that will hopefully be explained in due time, but for now, we officially have...
2nd Context Clue:
Soul has at one point owned Forsaken, and has recently transferred ownership over to someone else.
But we still don't have the bigger picture, and thus we require more digging through comments. Thank god the 3rd comment I encounter here helps us out a bit more.
From Silly Goob:
"I was so speechless when it was announced that Soul's ownership was transferred..
(Oh yeah and the getting exposed thing too.)"
...Right, we live in the era of the internet where this has become common.
I'm real tired of the way this world has gone at this point. Everyone's superconnected through the internet, which should be a good thing, but not only have we become more distant from others, we have also become desensationalized to the worst that gets put out on the internet, so much so that I can factually say I can count the YouTubers I used to watch that's said to have done some horrid things on more than one hand. I can also tell you that some of the YouTubers I still watch have survived a cancellation or two because the "trusted sources" were found to be faked from the get-go.
So sadly, hearing that someone got exposed is not something new to me on the Internet. But now, my curiosity is on full blast.
3rd Context Clue:
Someone was exposed as something. I have no idea at this time who it could be (Soul has been the only name thrown out there, but I still don't know if it's a company name or someone specific, and there could be others), nor what this mystery person was exposed for (and whether or not it was linked to the transference of ownership).
My knowledge has reached the point where I change my strategy in comment scrounging. There was an incident, which may or may not be the cause of the one thing I have more info on than the others. I start skimming the comments now, with the sole purpose of finding commenters who ask "wait what happened?"
Along the way, I catch glimpses of certain things, but since I have become dead focused on finding a certain type of question I glossed over them. In hindsight, at least judging from the screenshots I took, they would've helped me figure things out faster, but then I wouldn't have this story to tell, so I guess I should thank my idiocy. Thank you, dumbass.
Evidently, getting these screenshots, I did miss an earlier comment that matches my criteria that also helps piece things together, but the two comments that I come across that apparently were prime candidates to my brain's flowchart basically added determination fuel to the brain fire. They were the last comments too, so I guess that's also why I zoned in on them.
To both of these comments, provided by Saish and Mr. Forrest, the former had 1 reply, while the latter had 3. Mr. Forrest had 2 nothing comments, but both of them were visited by an old friend: Muse Mint!
What does Muse Mint say?
"Owners transferred, Soul sold Forsaken, the new legal owner is apparently pretty chill but if they wanted to they could do anything they want with it
The important part is nothing regarding development has changed yet (and will hopefully stay that way)"
If this seems familiar, then congratulations! You have beat my generation's goldfish memory by remembering something from earlier!
Anyways, it's just a repeat of an answer we've already seen, and at this point I'm wondering if Muse Mint is intentionally leaving out the thing regarding the scandal. In all honesty, they probably were, but not for any nefarious purposes. You will see soon what I mean.
At this point, I couldn't get any straight answers from anywhere I checked (such a shame I didn't check everywhere, isn't it?), so I checked the channel that posted the post. M1sf1re's channel. Once I did, the absolute horror sank in as I begin realizing I've made an assumption this entire time...
All this time, I've been thinking of the wrong game.
Major Context Clue:
I've been lying to you about the name of the game I've been talking about. The game that has terrible-ass writing, is called Forspoken. It was made in 2023 by Luminous Productions and was published by the Final Fantasy creators, Square Enix.
That game, was what I thought they were talking about.
Turns out, that Forsaken is a ROBLOX game. Specifically, judging from my initial scan of the thumbnails I saw of the game, I thought it to be some sort of team PvP game like Overwatch, but in hindsight it's more like Dead by Daylight. This, was what M1sf1re made the post about.
And I was under the impression that it was a different game, because BOTH FUCKING GAMES START WITH "FORS"!!
So after that, now all of a sudden I see some of the comments that I missed, since now I'm suddenly no longer holding the blind-causing ball.
The Context:
I finally learn all the context I need from several commenters:
Serial, who's just as exasperated as I am about another instance of someone coming out as a bad egg,
TaBee, who states that some of the allegations turned out to be true,
and finally, a replier from Muse Mint's own main comment, Ruth Les, who confirmed my suspicions.
I'm not going to say it like Ruth Les did, especially since I don't like censoring words the way they did it, but at the same time I am not typing those words out.
As a recap, here's the original post:
"Wow.
I'm not even sure how to comment on this.
Guess I was too naïve, need to learn from it."
The context for the post:
They're processing information that came out about Forsaken, a ROBLOX Dead-by-Daylight-clone made by someone with the username Soul. Soul sold the rights to someone else after information came out about them. Mainly, that they hang out with terrible people, and they themself own some illegal pictures that are made with intent to be used in unwholesome practices.
If you can't figure out what that last part means, one, you probably shouldn't be on this site, two, think about what kinds of illegal pictures someone who makes stuff for ROBLOX would like if they were horrible blights on humanity.
Hopefully, you can understand why I wanted to make this post. It was the most intentionally vague rabbit hole I went down, partly of my own making. Also, now you should understand why Muse Mint didn't mention the allegations at all. Since ownership has been transferred, they're probably trying to distance the game from Soul, and are most likely not wanting to scare the prime audience of ROBLOX away.
With this mystery finally cracked, there is finally peace in the world. Thank you for reading through this entire post, and I hope you realize now what the disclaimer at the beginning was about. Not only was it about the reveal of the scandal, but also so that people don't come onto here to learn stuff and think that Forsaken is referring to Forspoken like I thought it was. You can never be too cautious on the Internet, and sadly there is a lot of unintelligence out there, who will catch glimpses of things and claim them as facts, and as someone who doesn't want to spread misinformation, it was important that people coming onto this post understand that the way I present it is to help the pacing and the first major reveal of this story I've made of an experience I went through a little while ago.
I don't know how often I'll be making these kinds of posts again, but I'd like to do more, as with my instinct to turn basic information I acquire into a story about how I acquired it, I feel like I'll have fun doing them.
For now though, cya.
