Dear Mario

Thank you a-so much for being part of my childhood, I wish you luck in the future.

Dear Mario

This might not be evident to you, but I love video games. They're my preferred medium next to Let's Plays on YouTube. My parents have favorite actors, directors, writers, and the likes, while I have my favorite LPers, game companies, YouTubers, and bands/artists. It's not like this is strict though, I have a select few celebrities and actors I know of and like, and since my parents are also gamers they have opinions on stuff like game companies too.

This might also come as a surprise, but I love Mario. It's one of my favorite game series out there. They're one of the best platformers out there (mostly because they pioneered it), and it has a bunch of memorable characters. Naturally, the titular character is the most notable, as even those who don't game and don't follow anything gaming-related will recognize the plumber.

This... is what leads me here today.

Charles Martinet, the voice actor for Mario, his brother Luigi, their evil dopplegangers Wario and Waluigi, and more, has retired from his role as Mario's voice.

I've never met the man, but I would love to some day. From what I've heard, he's a real jolly fellow (fitting), and enjoys his line of work. He has a love and passion for this character, and will personalize some interactions at gaming conventions for fans because he wants them to be happy. I've heard stories from a streamer I watch, Vinny, about him meeting the man. I have a friend who actually met him and got his signature. He's such a nice fellow.

This one person has been Mario's voice since before I was born. I grew up with him being Mario. Nintendo couldn't have picked a better voice for the time. He brought that character to life. Mr. Martinet's work has formed my entire childhood, teenage years, and even up to now, and will probably last until my death.

I thank Charles Martinet for being Mario. For giving his best in making this silly guy have so much life. For everything that he's done.

...

So while it is sad that he's retiring this role, I understand why he did it, and am glad that he's still going to be around as the Mario Ambassador. In addition, I will be openminded about whoever will be the next Mario for this new generation. I wish Mr. Martinet the best of luck, and for the new Mario to give it their best.

Take care.
