The OC's from the Past (Group 3: Terrarians)
I talk about my OC's. This set contains all of my Terraria characters, from all the eras of creation.
Welcome back to yet another post in this series.
If you don't recall the formula in which I do this in, or didn't check out the previous post, here's a run-down:
- Characters will be put in drop-down menus.
- It will mention, in this probable order: their name (on the box), a description, their personality and skills, and their roles.
- For characters that have evolved over the years, I will mention either the latest one or my favorite one.
- I will make mention of any important iterations using the angle bracket ">".
- If a character was migrated into a new group, I will mention the group, and mark any changes they have had.
Now, let us begin:
Terrarians
If you didn't already know, I love Terraria. At the time of this post, I've been waiting for the latest update for several years now. I'm a big fan.
So it is natural for someone like me to create so many characters within the game. It's inspired a lot of my creativity.
To explain some context of the Terraria world...
It's a land filled with all kinds of characters, creatures, entities, and powers from all sorts of genres. Despite this, the one thing I would say is Terraria's main genre is the occult. you summon so many things using items at night, or through any other specific ritualistic method (sacrificing your Guide, anyone?). Not to mention, the pre-ultimate boss of the game is the Lunatic Cultist, who is trying to summon the final boss through means of an old lovecraftian tablet.
Needless to say, there's a lot of magic in this world, alongside quite a few mechanical and technological advances. Even more so when you enter Hard Mode.
(I will be separating my Terraria characters by the groups they were made in, and I will do my best to sort them into their proper eras. No promises though.)
Era 1: The Lapis Clan
Gremlin Lapis
Gremlin was inspired by Yrimir's mage playthrough of Terraria. He's a blue-skinned mage with white hair (including a long wizard beard under his huge nose) and cyan eyes, wearing a purple cloak and clothing. Slippers too. In addition he also wears a golden pendant on his necklace.
He was originally just a character, but when I started doing personalities, I made him a grumpy old man. His magic has aged him considerably. He isn't actually that old, but he looks like a typical wizard, like Merlin.
Being a Terrarian mage, he uses books to cast from, his favorite being the Waterbolt. His only other notable thing is the Star Cloak, which rains down stars when he gets hit. He's pretty frail though, so he has to rely on a lot more magical artifacts to make sure he doesn't die soon.
He was originally supposed to be trained as a warrior or a ranger, as part of the Lapis tribe, but Gremlin wanted to study magic. He left his family to search for more power.
> Gremlin originally had no surname, much like his family, and he had green eyes. His eyes were changed to be unrelated to my avatar. A lot of him still mostly stayed the same though.
Speaking of avatar, if Gremlin sounds familiar, it's because he was the first ever basis for Bhuster. Blue-skinned mage, and all that. Hell, one of my last drawings of past-Gremlin is the one that created the BrambleClaw familiar.
Poh Lapis
Poh was the ranger character I had for Terraria. He had blue skin, short green hair, and cyan eyes. He wears a green vest over his moss-green shirt, purple pants and shoes, a belt with a pouch, and a quiver filled with arrows.
Poh is the brother of Gremlin, and is a lot more deadpan, stoic, and serious. Therefore, he has a no-nonsense attitude.
His preferred weapon is the bow, which is made of silver. He uses flaming arrows because they hurt more and for much longer, but they also serve as a light source should he need one.
Poh was one of the greatest rangers of the clan. When in training, he was known for his determination and work ethic. When he reached adulthood, he learned about his brother. After several years, he went out looking for him. No one knows why.
> Originally, he wore a red shirt and pants, blue shoes, and a yellow long-sleeved undershirt. Much like Gremlin, he might've also had green eyes.
Anya Lapis
Anya is a young warrior fresh from training. She has the typical blue skin and cyan eyes, but she also has dull-blue hair, with one sweeping bang going over her left eye, and a spiky bun at the end of her back-reaching hair. She wears a red tank top, travelling pants with boots, and a backpack. On her right hand is a purple bracelet.
Having just become of age to be the warrior she was trained to be, she's quite inexperienced in the swing of things. Very naïve, but a quick learner. She gives a lot of things her all, adventuring included.
While relatively new to the scene, her skills with her golden sword are surprisingly good. Sometimes though, she struggles to understand when to draw her sword, and when to keep it sheathed.
She joined Poh on his quest to find their brother. She doesn't care about that, as she never really knew him. The reason she joined was because it was a chance for adventure.
> I planned on making a warrior in this clan, since I already had two, but I think I didn't fully do it because I put me into Terraria, and I was the warrior. Anya is a recent design of what she would've been, using the updated Lapis family designs to help.
The Lapis Clan was a family in a tribe of blue-skinned people. The clan (and the tribe as a whole) trained their members in the ways of the sword and the bow. Gremlin wanted to learn magic, so he was shunned and eventually exiled. It was mutual, as Gremlin wanted to leave anyway in order to find more powerful magics.
Era 2: Early Settlers
Pete Juelinni
Pete is a Terrarian summoner. He's a generic white guy, with short brown hair and blue eyes. He has somewhat of a slim figure. He wears a white button-up, black leggings, blue shoes, and a neat red hat.
He's very stoic - unemotional. He does care for his summon friends, but he doesn't care for anyone else.
He was made before Whips were included, so his main weapon would be his beloved hornet and imp combo.
> Originally his name was just Pooky. When I gave him his surname, I intended it to rhyme with his name: Pooky Juelinni. Now, to make him seem less silly, his name's Pete.
In addition, he was inspired by Yrimir again, this time the summoner playthrough. Yrimir created Hagrid from Harry Potter (again, back then we didn't know of her bigotry), and since Hagrid is usually so kind I thought it would be funny to have someone that was not emotive and distanced himself from everyone.
Scarlette Smith
Scarlette was the first character I actually recorded. I intended on making a series where I built a castle, and she would be the queen.
She is a caucasian redhead, with some freckles. She usually wore a blue robe, with copper greaves, and a golden crown with a ruby lodged in it.
She was going to be a warrior, but since I didn't go far I didn't get the chance to fully fill out her skills.
> Originally lacked a surname, but the oldest one I remember, Hoeni, was in reference to the music I wanted to make for the video. It was going to have horns to give it the "royal" feel, and the music in the Hoenn games for Pokemon include a lot of horns.
If you have read the latest Project post, you might recognize this one. Scarlette Copperfield is going to be a character in this new story.
Mezz Ezli
Mezz was another mage character. She has blue hair (tied into a ponytail) that fades to white the closer she is to running out of mana. She wears jungle pants, dryad coverings (basically vines for a bra), and a rose in her hair.
She was an adventurous character, who loved exploring. That's all I remember.
> She was originally called Mesarou, and at some point I gave her the last name of the world I played her on (Teslitat). Mesarou is a corruption of "Mess around," and Teslitat started with "Test."
These were the rest of the characters that I made where I just played the game normally with them (for the most part - they still did class-specific things [Scarlette uses swords, Mezz was a mage, and Pete had summons]). The only one I had specific plans for was Scarlette, as I wanted to make a kingdom for her (which involved making castles). Otherwise, they were just class playthroughs that weren't involved with the Lapis Clan.
Era 3: Paranormal Investigative Researchers
Tim Adam
Tim is the leader of the group. He's known for being arrogant and egotistical, but under the surface he cares for his team, and the people they help out.
He's white (probably german), with dark, curly, messy hair. His eyes are green. His head has a sharp jawline and a defined chin. He's slim-ish, but with a little bit of muscle. He wears a yellow snow hoodie, with cyan slacks and silver shoes.
He's the melee user of the group, preferring the Muramasa.
> Originally he was known as Timmy Aebin, and before that, Timmy Eby. He was inspired by the energetic Johnny Ghost in the VenturianTale videos (a channel I don't watch anymore).
Jane Debbe
Jane is Tim's second-in-command. She's very shy, but cares a lot for her friends and pets.
She's got a tan complexion, I'm not sure what race she would be. I think maybe she's native american, but it doesn't matter much to me. She has blue eyes, with dirty blonde hair that covers one of her eyes. She's got soft features on her head, which is a bit round. She's got an average build, with an ample bust. She wears a white sweater with tannish brown pants and brown shoes.
She's the summoner, favoring imps using the imp staff.
> Originally, Jane was a guy: John Debb. He was based off of the suave Johnny Toast (again, from VenturianTale), but he said "dude" instead of "sir." I think I changed the gender of this character because I used the Gender Potion on John in Terraria. Canonically, this character isn't transgender. At some point I think the characters of John and Jane split apart, and sometimes I think about making John the brother of Jane.
April Marlow
April is the occult researcher of the group. Boastful about her powers, and likes to show off her skills and knowledge.
She is a white blonde, with straight bangs and long flowy hair reaching her back. Her face is a little sharp, but still soft. She has brown eyes. She wears a purple tank top over a lighter undershirt, with a black skirt and flip-flops. She also wears a purple headband in her hair.
Usually is seen with a crystal orb, which is her channeling focus. She is also a werewolf - nothing special to it.
> Originally named April Minx, then realized that Minx isn't an appropriate last name, so it then became Mirx. At some point she was Tim's girlfriend, but with Jane entering the mix I don't know if April is supposed to be an ex to Tim, or if they were never an item to begin with.
Louis Byrne
Louis is the tracker and tech expert of the group. He's usually calm and collected, but enjoys snarking matches with Tim.
Louis has a mixed complexion (black and white). He's built strong, but not to an exaggerated degree. His eyes are likened to emeralds. He's got dark brown hair, which is short and tidy. Some people would describe his face as chiseled. He wears a t-shirt under an opened green button-up shirt. Jeans and boots finish up his attire.
Despite his build, he prefers guns for weapons.
> His last name was originally McGerald. I don't know why.
Gena Byrne
Gena is the older sister to Louis, but isn't connected to the group.
Lore is that she was named by her father after a famous video game character.
> Said character was Geno, from Super Mario RPG.
This was a more serious set of characters.
Originally I had Tim and John (who later was replaced with Jane) as part of a paranormal investigating group (much like the Johnnies from VenturianTale lore [back when they were good, and not corrupted by a LGBTQ-hating mother]). Tim was a warrior, John was a summoner. Because Terraria had classes, I wanted to have the other two slots filled up with April and Louis. Eventually I gave Louis a sister, and even later I "replaced" John with a Rule 63 version of himself (Jane).
I used these guys as excuses to explore Terraria maps, again, much like their inspirations would do. I pretended to be hunting ghosts while going through the maps, using their own specific gear (not the gear the map recommends).
Era 4: Map Explorers
Lance Harn
Lance is gonna be the most stereotypical dumb anime protagonist you will ever see.
He's of average build, his dirty-blonde hair is combed all the way forward, yet defies enough gravity to let him see from underneath it. He wears some sort of green-and-purple samurai robes.
He's not bright, but he's strong, and has a sense for justice.
Lanice Harn
Lanice is the twin sister of Lance. I don't remember much about her hair, as it's hidden behind some cobalt (or shroomish) armor, which she's fully decked out in. She wears a jellyfish necklace.
She's not as strong as her brother, but she's smarter and still skillful.
Ferbio Baron
Ferbio is just a floating obsidian skull.
He's old and wise, always willing to give out hints to others.
> He was originally a buff guy with the obsidian skull for a head, I thought he would be cooler if he was just the skull.
Kanissa Verrin
Kanissa is a confident and sassy individual who loves exploring.
She has a robot hat and a jellyfish-inspired necklace, along with her basic clothing.
> She originally had some sort of cool effects on her chest-piece and her cool hat.
Victoria Empa
Victoria is a redhead with a cool, silver hat. Alongside that, she wears a red cape, some sort of black suit or armor, and some sweet running shoes.
She was known to be very vain.
Syclone
It is unknown what Syclone really looks like, as he always wears his black space suit. His helmet has a huge, circular visor on the front, glowing blue.
A mystery to everyone, he has a calm and calculated demeanor. He's there for the job, not much else.
Salindra
Salindra is a snake person, or Naga. She has green scales, yellow eyes behind her glasses, and red hair with a rose in it. A kimono fails to hide her busty figure, and she has a hooded half-cloak.
She is a professional thief/rogue, who stole a magical rod artifact that she uses to her benefit.
I made these specific characters to go through some maps, this time actually following some of the rules of the map. However, I barely remember which maps some of them were made for.
- Lance I believe was going through a Legend of Zelda map.
- Lanice's map I don't recall much. Judging off of her design's vibes, though, I'll say it's a sea-exploring one.
- Ferbio was made for either a Super Mario Bros. map, or a Paper Mario map.
- Kanissa's map I also can't remember. It was probably quite a ride, judging by what her character originally looked like.
- I don't know what Victoria had as a map.
- Syclone was in space. While I designed what he looked like, it's been five years, and I don't remember what he was supposed to be.
- Salindra was actually made for a map idea I had. It was gonna be some sort of multiplayer map where one person has to chase Salindra down through a museum before she steals an artifact or something.
Era 5: Character Creator Results
Novina Fin'llr
Novina is a professor. Of what? I don't know. She has tan skin and red hair done in a bob-cut style of sorts, with a single strand sticking out from the top.
Supposedly very smart. Loves adventure. I guess she's as much of a professor as Indiana Jones is an archaeologist.
Romana Toninn
Romana is a mage with long teal hair and an hourglass build. She might have purple eyes. Her outfit is mainly just a long yellow robe that she keeps closed.
She is cursed to become an obsidian dragon. Smooth, black-purple scales, two big curved horns come out from the top sides of her head, big-ass claws on both her hands and feet, and a big set of wings. However, she's still humanoid in this form, and she keeps her build.
Romana is a timid and worrisome individual. She wants to break the curse on her. Her cursed form, meanwhile, is the most threatening beast anyone will have ever dared to come across.
> If you look in the Archives tab, and find the one called Shattered Realities, you can see I wanted to include her with the rest of the cast.
These were me just messing around with character creation shit, alongside once again using the Builder's Workshop map (which is how I made some characters, like Salindra and the PIR crew). I don't know what inspired Novina, but I had some sort of idea with Romana... Of which I no longer know.
Era 6: World Challengers
Alyssan Lovuella
Alyssan is an explorer that got transported into the deep caverns of a land called Harrow's Edge. She has a very tan complexion, brown hair (tied into a ponytail), and blue eyes. She has a slightly athletic build, and her chest size is above average. Her outfit is a teal crop-tank over a long-sleeved blue shirt, with short shorts and white shoes.
She's always keeping track of her surroundings, making her wary of all sorts of things. Despite her cautious attitude, she enjoys adventuring. Occasionally she can be a bit reckless, but she usually bounces back from it.
> Sometimes she was less cautious in her personality. Also at some point I made her a werewolf too.
Erra Gottin
Erra is a wanderer that ends up getting stuck on an island in a perpetual 3-day cycle. She's got tan/dark skin, green eyes, and red hair mostly going to one side. She's a bit chubby. Her outfit consists of a long sleeved black shirt, black slacks, white shoes, and a red robe.
She is a bit scatterbrained, but does her best to keep on task (which is important if everything resets after 3 days). Sometimes she gets really stressed. As a hobby, she writes everything down in a journal/diary. Sometimes it helps her stay on track when things reset.
To help the island get unstuck, she had to harvest the mask from all the bosses that haunt it. The masks provide some sort of power to alter what the island is like after each reset. Thus, she gets obsessed with masks.
Yumi
Yumi is the skybase-builder within the Absent Chunk, keeping the place running and progressing through the invasion that's happening. She has teal/cyan skin, dark blue hair, and red eyes. Her build is average. Her outfit consists of a gray low-cut tank top (with a modesty panel), white pants, and blue shoes.
She's quite abrasive, but deep down she has a kind heart.
> Originally she had a long white dress-skirt instead of white pants.
Norre
Norre is the scavenger, collecting resources in worlds before they disappear, before bringing it back to the skybase. He has dark-blue skin, red hair, and yellow eyes. His build is also average. He wears a gray tank-top, with a white long-sleeved shirt underneath. Alongside that, he wears dark pants and brown shoes.
He's a bit snarky and rude, most likely due to the very tense situation that he's trying to fix with Yumi's help.
Moh Calypse
Moh is an action survivor, having toughed it out through the apocalypse. She has dirty-blonde hair and blue eyes. Her black t-shirt has a cyan heart on it. She wears red sweatpants and green shoes to go with it.
She is a little fearful. Okay, a lot fearful. She tries to hide it by pretending to be hardened by her experiences, but anyone who knows her can see her true self underneath all that. All Moh wants is just some peace and quiet, but unfortunately can't find any peace.
Carly Maple
Carly is a Terramon professor (as in, the Pokemon Professor in Terraria, thanks to a mod). She has red skin, teal/cyan hair styled in two buns/ponytails, and green eyes. Her lab coat is slightly magenta/purple, and underneath it she wears a blue shirt, black pants, and sky blue shoes.
She is very chipper, and loves her job of studying pokemon. The field she works in is how pokemon affect the Terrarian ecosystem. Obviously, she's got incredible smarts, but she isn't the kind to brag about it. In fact, she likes to share her knowledge with others.
This is the start of what I've been calling the Modern Eras of these Terraria characters. Specifically these ones were made for different challenges that I wanted to do.
- Alyssan was the first time in a while I've tried to record a series of Terraria. She was in a Master mode world on the Don't Starve seed, and the natural spawn was about halfway into the caverns biome, having been left there by a goddess (according to the lore I can recall). I remember it being hell to climb all the way up. She might've also been a Medium-core character (which essentially acts like "keepInventory = False" for Minecraft), so imagine dying over and over and over, and whenever you die, you have to either make the same lucky progress, or make different process, in order to make it back to your items.
- Erra was made for a challenge that was inspired by Wand of Sparking's series of videos. The world was reset after 3 in-game days, and he had to make a lot of progress in-between those resets. He had his own rules, but I gave myself a different set of rules. The main one was that, if you collected the mask of the boss you were fighting, that boss's defeat is permanent, and carries over after every reset. Also, I think I was allowed to keep more items than he could, mainly because the challenge's inspiration (Majora's Mask) doesn't really take your items away after each reset.
- Yumi and Norre were made for the same challenge. Norre would forage for items and such, while Yumi started in a skyblock-esque setting, using the materials Norre provided to start setting up base.
- Moh was made to test out a Parasite mod, so it's not really a challenge I made her for (Carly wasn't either, but they fit well enough that they are put here). Inspired by the Minecraft Scape and Run mod, the Terraria parasite mod had the world get more and more overrun by the strange parasitic beasts.
- Carly was made to test out the Terraria mod Terramon. I got a few pokemon, but I haven't done much else within that world, let alone the character.
Era 7: Late Settlers
Melvin Renko
Melvin is a chunky man, very stout. He has a magnificent beard, and long flowing hair, all turquoise-colored. He wears a light blue tank-top, a yellow band on each arm, dark red shorts, and green boots.
Melvin is known to have a light heart and spirit. He rarely worries, but if he does you know the situation has gotten serious. A jovial fellow, he enjoys the company of others. More so if he has food and ale.
The Traveler
Only known by her alias, the Traveler is a dark-skinned individual, with a decent headful of black hair, and green eyes. Her outfit is a tattered light red sweater, white jeans, and boots.
Not much is known about her; she just showed up suddenly to help those in the Land of the Damned. Some theorize that she has an ulterior motive, others think she really is that kind.
> She intentionally has no name, only the alias, because I planned on changing her name as I went through the world I was playing (which was a Legendary-mode "Everything" seed world) depending on what happens. I thought it would be cool to have a character that gets new names the further the story went.
Violet
I don't know her deal. She has fair-skin, long brown hair, red eyes, and an hourglass build. She has a teal t-shirt with a white heart on it, regular jeans, and light purple shoes.
She can change into an anthro purple fox, gaining new abilities.
> This is a combination of two characters: an unnamed girl character that I have screenshots of for her design (yet not her name), and a character that I dressed up as a purple fox (which I recall drawing, yet she doesn't seem to be anywhere on my computer).
I don't remember if the fox had a human form, if she had multiple forms, or if she was supposed to just be the fox girl. Hell, I don't remember which era she would've been made in. I combined the two so that neither of them would fade into obscurity, so here's yet another shapeshifter/lycanthrope/furry character to throw onto the table.
I named her Violet due to her inexplicable ability to turn into a purple fox.
Vixoth Solun
Vixoth is an explorer of the land known as Terrasea. She has a deep tan, with emerald-green eyes and a vibrant purple set of flowing hair. She wears a black tank top, a green bracelet, white shorts, and some dark boots.
She's an adventurer who heard of the untamed lands known as Terrasea, and knew she had to settle there before anyone else. Competitive and combative to a fault, but is still quite friendly.
Late settlers are the most recent Terraria characters I've made, as they were made in the year 2025, with a partial exception (see Violet's tab for more info).
- Melvin was just a character I did to play a world again, but I don't remember going far with him.
- The Traveler was made to do the Everything seed on Legendary mode.
- I don't recall what both halves of Violet were being used for (again, see her tab for an explanation there).
- Vixoth was me wanting to record myself going through Terraria for the nth time, taking inspiration from Earthsea in the naming of the world. Original.
History
Let us go on a ride of Terraria character lore.
- Era 1 (Lapis): No, I don't remember what the world name was for the Lapis Clan. All I recall was that Gremlin was going around searching for spellbooks.
- Era 2 (Early): The Terraria worlds were much older for this era. Pete knew how to fight with his summons without whips, for example, and the legend of the Zenith didn't exist in this timeframe. Let alone the Moon Lord. I think these characters were made before 1.3.
- Era 3 (PIR): The crew lived in a world where there were more supernatural entities and events that the regular Terrarian mob couldn't cause, so they went around trying to purify these spirits to make the world more normal. Well, as normal as Terraria would allow.
- Era 4 (Explorers): These were a bunch of disconnected maps that the characters were playing through. If we go off of what I can remember of the maps I used, it included a typical fantasy kingdom, a more genre-blending kingdom, a great big sea, space stations (somehow), and a giant museum that is probably guarded more than the kingdom's castles themselves.
- Era 5 (Custom): I didn't really have a world for Novina and Romana. A professor and a cursed cleric don't seem to fit anywhere in a story together... probably.
- Era 6 (Challengers): This world is cursed. A goddess recruited Alyssan to save Harrow's Edge from darkness, Erra got caught up in a "Groundhog Day"-curse set upon the island by a dark entity, and there's some sort of parasitic invasion going on. That's not considering the apocalyptic deity that is consuming worlds at an incredibly and concerningly fast rate. The only neat aspect about this is that there is one location that has Pokemon, and is being enthusiastically studied by a newbie professor. Sometimes you have to stop and smell the Bellsprouts, I guess.
- Era 7 (Late): This world is really relaxed. The only known lands are the Lands of the Damned, and Terrasea. Granted, the Land of the Damned is a place where poor saps go to suffer, but they have the Traveler with them, so it's alright.
Damn, that's a lot of Terrarians. Unrelated news, going through these characters makes me want to do an extra post after going through my OC's, categorizing them and seeing what the majority of my past characters have been.
I think the next post will be about other gaming-created characters. I hope you'll come around again.
