SMG Completion Art (+ Bhuster & Bramble piece)

First post in Projects, where I show off what I have been working on at this point.

SMG Completion Art (+ Bhuster & Bramble piece)
It feels like Mario should've gotten powerups to become a bird or a plane at one point.

Feels weird to use this site more as a blog-esque place now. I'm all for it though, as now I get to go more in-depth if I want to.

Now, for the main course:

Super Mario Galaxy

Space done right (if you ignore all the non-realistic space shenanigans)

For Mario Galaxy, I wanted to show Mario flying through space, with the Luma at his side (and also I wanted to draw Rosalina). The purplish colored parts are the symbols I want to make look like galaxies. The glint in background-Mario's right eye is where I want the Comet Observatory to be, and the main goal is to have Mario leave a trail coming from it. Rosalina is going to fade into the background like she's in a shitty sci-fi movie poster, but hopefully she'll look good. We'll see though.

For now, I already have some progress with the piece. Mario is almost done, he just needs his pupils. Then, the coloring. The only reason why I haven't added them yet is because I need to draw the luma for him to focus on. After I finish them both, Rosalina will be next to draw, and then I will make the universe background. After that, I will try to see how I can fade Rosalina seamlessly into the background.

I have to say, after drawing Mario in the M&L style, drawing here is fun. It was nice to draw him with a better style, but I needed to fix how he looked in my own style. Disregarding the TTYD Paper Mario & the Superstar Saga Mario, this Mario I drew dwarfs all the other ones I made.

For context, here's all of the Mario's I've drawn up to this point:

Bhuster and Bramble drawing

Since joining Newgrounds, I needed something to draw to show off my actual skill nowadays. Also, I am using this to redesign my avatar and his familiar yet again.

Here's the other thing I've been working on. A new piece involving my avatar. This is Bhuster, a mage with a cat familiar named Bramble.

I plan on making a new post that talks about my avatar soon, since I archived all the other ones. However, I mainly want to talk about Bramble here. I've struggled to draw the cat familiar for a while now, and I want to change that. She also didn't look as much like a cat. Well, she did. Kinda.

Her previous design.

At some point I just chalked it up to her feline design also implementing some elements of a fox (longer cheek fur, bushy tail, and the ears), and a raccoon (striped tail). She also had hair on top of her.

I'm thinking of changing some things. First off, no hair, and second off, her eyes are gonna be beady. She can still show off a lot of personality (which is essentially Bhuster's smarts & sarcasm), but now I won't have to draw her eyes in this weird way. Also, her muzzle has been changed. I've been told that animals (especially furries) were easier to draw. Bull. Shit. One of the main reasons why I stopped using all the anthro characters I had here before were mainly because I struggled to draw them. There was too much. Muzzles are one of my biggest challenges to draw.

At the moment, I like how I drew her muzzle in the piece so far. In addition, her ears have been majorly changed. Animal ears were another challenge for me, but through some research I think I found a way to draw them to be more natural. I like how they look, they're cartoonish enough, and also appear more cat-like.

I'm not sure if I am going to draw her tail the same as usual, or if I'm making it look like a regular cat tail. I might mess with her patterns too, but that's for later. I need to draw her first.

That's all I have for now. I hope you enjoyed me talking about this. It might be a bit of a struggle at first as I'm getting used to the preparation I'm going to be doing for each one, but I think it will be worth it.
