The Lore of Normore: A Legit Attempt at a Story

A new story idea that I will try out.

Sorry it's been a bit again since I've posted here. I plan on an update post soon. For now, I am simply relaying an idea.

I've had many OC's throughout the years, and I'm sure I've mentioned them. It might be fun to do a post listing what these characters are, but for this post we're focusing on three. I will be providing the current names of them, specifically for this idea. Before we get to them, though, let's talk about something more important.

What is Normore?

I don't remember when I first created the name, but it was always meant to be the name of a place. Whether it be a town, a kingdom, or a continent.

I am now using it to name the entire land.

I always get too technical into my worldbuilding, to the point where I try to mash realism with fantasy. Usually, I envision the settings of my past worldbuilding ideas to be on a globe. With some inspiration, I can ditch the idea of a planet for a setting. There was a reddit/tumblr post that talked about Rain World, where they theorize that the world in the game isn't a planet, but rather, it's just a "world" that it's set on.

Remember playing through the Zelda games? The Land of Hyrule? You don't see the planet that Hyrule is settled on, it's always just a "land." Rain World's, well, world, is inspired by that kind of world limitations. I want to replicate that as well, since I love both of those games. Therefore, this is the Land of Normore.

Who are these characters?

I'm glad you asked, whoever you are (seriously who are you?)! Let's delve in:

Benjamin Gothic- My idea for him is that he wants to slay the titans. The previous character was an asshole, then I didn't want that and changed it to him being an adventurous yet cautious character. Now, for this story, he's probably going to be a bit of a loner that has to travel with his two companions, listed below.

Alyssan Wulfe- Her concept is that she just gained access to magic, yet doesn't know shit about it. She wants to find answers to what she has and why. Her previous character is that she was an adventurer that enjoys the journey, and knows how to handle the harsh wilderness around her. Now I want her to go on a knowledge quest, to study up on magic.

Scarlette Copperfield- Speaking of quests, this one has a mission to find a being known as the Autumn King. With Benjamin being a gruff loner, and Alyssan being a naïve mage, Scarlette is the grounded personality between the two. She's not prone to goofing off, but she doesn't take things that seriously either. Her previous incarnation was a woman who wanted to be the queen, and thus was courageous and confident.

You failed all the previous times; how are you gonna keep yourself on this?

I'm not gonna fib to myself any longer about the reason why I'm doing it. I've always wanted to both be playing the story, and be the storyteller itself. I can't do that. I don't have the skill to do that effectively.

In a world where mass-produced content and millions of slop try to grab your attention, I want to make something that has soul. I want to make art. I want to make a story. I just struggle to find the right story I want to make.

Another issue I usually have is that I keep thinking about the story over and over, until I reach a point where I "know too much" to care making it. I basically overthink myself, and because I have been focusing on making it "game-ified" for myself, I just spoil the ending for me. It sounds stupid, I know.

For this one, I am doing something different. I will actually PLOT the story.

To do that, though, I need to do some more planning. Why do the things matter in the story? Essentially, I have to worldbuild a bit before starting the story. I have LibreOffice installed (open source equivalent to Microsoft Office), which lets me make legit notes without resorting to .txt files. This is where I will most likely be doing my planning. When I eventually have a world, this program is how I will plan the plot.

I have also gotten something called Zim. It's a "Desktop Wiki," which does as it says. If you've ever heard of World Anvil, it's that, but without the DnD coat of paint. I am going to use it to make the Wiki of Normore. Hopefully it can organize my thoughts a lot better, in a more readable format.

I might do some other posts about stuff here regarding Normore, so keep a look out for that.
